Champions Weekend - Pio Squads Poised for History

This weekend, regardless of outcomes, will likely be the final home games for the undefeated men's soccer team (#13 seed in the NCAA Tournament) and women's volleyball (#1 seed - Summit) squads.

The women (25-6) face South Dakota (#5 seed - Summit) today at 5:00 p.m. If they win they would advance to the Summit League finals and a match up with the winner of the IUPUI (#2 seed - Summit) or Nebraska-Omaha (#3 seed - Summit) match. That game takes place at 2:00 p.m. Sunday for a spot in the NCAA playoffs. If they can pull off the two wins, Jessie Mahoney's squad can qualify for their second straight NCAA berth and tie for the most wins in volleyball program history.

After the Summit League playoffs, the volleyball team travels to Long Beach State for their final non-conference match on November 28th.

The undefeated men's soccer team (14-0-3) start their NCAA run in their first home NCAA Tournament game ever against SMU (14-2-4) at CIBER Field. The Mustangs were undefeated during the regular season (7-0-1) in the American Athletic Conference but lost in PKs to Tulsa during their conference finals. They then defeated Utah Valley in the first round of the NCAA playoffs to earn the right to play the Pioneers. If DU defeats SMU, they would play the winner of Rutgers vs. (#3) Akron match. A Rutgers upset of Akron would lead to a second match at CIBER field.

Weather in Denver is expected to be good for Sunday's soccer game with a high of 55 degrees. LetsGoDU encourages all Pioneer fans to pack CIBER Field & Hamilton Gym to support both teams during another great sports weekend in Denver.
